I loved winter. I never thought I would hear myself utter those words but this year it’s true, I actually loved winter. I didn’t enjoy the cold, but I really do love the space that winter creates, enabling us to slow right down, to hibernate, reflect and be creative.
In the summer months I run around a lot. I’m outside all the time, which is ace but I don’t make much space for the ‘me time’ that my body craves. In the winter, solitude is kind of forced upon me and I’m really happy about that. It’s gives me a much needed rest, mentally and physically and I’ve found that when I’m slow, the inspiration flows.
About a month ago I went to a Dru Yoga Relaxation Workshop taught by Lucyoga and it was there that the beauty of slowing down really struck me. It was so nice to be in that room full of people taking time out from their schedules and giving something back to themselves.
We spend so much time giving to others or focusing on earning a living that we miss out on taking care of ourselves, what good are we going to be to anyone if we’re not feeling healthy and happy?
When our minds slow down our nervous system and heart rate slows too, this creates an environment where calm and peace can thrive. Imagine how peaceful, happy and healthy we’d feel if ‘slow’ was our natural state.
This is why I’m drawn to yoga, in particular Dru Yoga. It’s a yoga that helps you to be slow and calm. It’s not about pushing your body or competing with your yoga opponents, it’s about letting go of stress on a physical and energetic level, and bringing yourself back into the moment. When we do this we can start to feel the peace creeping back.
Clearing out the mental clutter also creates space for the new ideas to come in. Towards the end of the Relaxation Workshop we had sound healing poured upon us by the lovely ‘White Bird Sounds’. With the relaxation increased by a couple of notches, and in a slowed down state of bliss, the inspiration began to flow. Ideas for new projects started filling my brain and I left the workshop not only relaxed but completely full of inspiration for the future.
Now I see the snowdrops and crocuses are out and I’m really excited about the oncoming spring, I find myself making resolutions to remember to remain slow, to carry the stillness of winter with me and to bring myself back into the moment so I can make the most of the coming season’s offerings.
So this summer when we are striding across the mountains of Andaluçia, or swimming off the beaches of the Costa Blanca, I’ll be grateful for Lucyoga being there with me, to keep a little bit of slow in my days. Relaxing mind and body so that I stay present and peaceful throughout the summer.
If you’d like to join me and Lucyoga in Andaluçia for a relaxing and rejuvenating mountainside retreat or on the Costa Blanca for our beachside yoga holiday, then get in touch to book your slot.
